Recently I’ve been setting an alarm that tells me it’s time for lunch, and it’s been doing wonders for me! Did you know that eating on a consistent schedule will help you burn fat more efficiently?

This is because our bodies work in a cycle of circadian rhythms, a cycle of biorhythms that repeats itself every 24 hours. By always eating around the same time, our body knows exactly when to prepare for food. Our mouth will start producing salivary enzymes to break down our food and our gut will prepare burn your food for fuel more efficiently.

How can we do this? Try setting an alarm on your phone for each meal. You can see an example in the picture to your right! This way I don’t fall into the bad habit of getting carried away with an activity, forgetting to eat, and then being so starving by the time you do eat that you overindulge because you can’t think straight. Sound familiar?

Well my alarm went off today, signaling lunch time, and I noticed that I was out of greens. So I decided to play around with what I DID have, and this is what I came up with:

Screen Shot 2014-09-18 at 12.15.34 PMI had some zucchini so I pulled out my spiral slicer and made some zucchini spaghetti. If you don’t have a spiral slicer you can always just cut the zucchini into thin slices. OR if you have any interest in getting a spiral slicer, you can purchase one for a cheap $20. Not too shabby.

I had my “pasta.” Now I needed some sauce.

I had a tomato, garlic, and olive oil, and from my time living in Italy I know that these are the three essential ingredients to any good meal.

But I wanted to make the sauce CREAMY. I remembered from my raw vegan cooking classes that you can make something creamy by adding certain foods, such as bananas, cashews, and avocados. I had an avocado so I figured I’d give it a go!

Here is what I used to make the sauce:Screen Shot 2014-09-17 at 3.06.14 PM

  • 1 tomato
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 2 tbs olive oil (cold-pressed is best)
  • 1/4 ripe avocado
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Splash of water to desired consistency

I blended them up in my Vitamix blender and BOOM, it was delicious! I drizzled it directly on top of the zucchini pasta and mixed it around until it was well coated, then sprinkled on some Rawmesan, which is a raw vegan version of parmesan cheese! It’s basically ground up brazil nuts, nutritional yeast, and spices, but you can add it to anything and it has a parmesan-like taste and texture! It’s delicious and the bottle lasts forever. You can find it in your local Health Food store, in the Raw section if they have one. I highly recommend it!

Bon appétit!
